Lawn Mowers

When choosing a lawn mower you really can be spoilt for choice. There are dozens of manufacturers who all produce a range of lawn mowers in each category of mower. For most people your main choice comes down to that of whether you want a rotary mower or a cylinder lawn mower. Once you have decided this, you then have the choice of how you want your mower to be powered ie by hand (not advised), electrically or by petrol. You now even have the choice to purchase a battery powered robotic lawn mower.

The Choice

The traditional Cylinder lawn mower will give you the better finish and help maintain a quality lawn, However, Rotary lawn mowers are the most common type of lawn mower and are also the most versatile. The rotary mower can cope with longer and rougher grass than other types of lawn mower. The rotary mower also copes better than other mowers with uneven, hilly lawns. Hover mowers are good lawn mowers for the smaller garden. They are simple in design which makes them cheap and they are also very easy to manoeuvre and control.

Electrically operated mowers are usually cheaper to purchase than the equivalent petrol-powered version and are lighter and easier to control. Their main disadvantage comes from the trailing lead which can get tangled around almost everything in the garden. Electric lawn mowers should always be used with an RCD.

Petrol Lawnmowers require more maintenance and are more expensive to purchase than electrically powered ones. They can be more powerful and there really is no alternative for the larger garden.

We hope you find this website as an informative guide to the different types and styles of lawn mowers and hope it allows you to make an informed choice before you go out and make your purchase.
